Ron has a wide range of expertise, including broad general management responsibilities, in the wireless, cable, and wireline areas of telecom. He has specific expertise in outsourcing, product management, large enterprise applications, consultative selling, business development, network capacity management, vertical industry marketing, and B2B marketing. Along with an extensive background as an operating manager and executive with large firms, such as AT&T and Comcast, Ron also has the unique experiences and insights that come from being a part of a small early stage start-up.
Ron’s responsibilities have included managing a $700 million product and running a $50M/year client relationship. He also served as the senior vice president of business services at Comcast, led a carrier wholesale unit at AT&T, and ran the solution center for AT&T’s billion dollar outsourcing business. At a wireless start-up, he provided the initiative and leadership to develop an indirect sales channel for these smaller markets that would eventually provide over 70% of sales.
Ron holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Delaware, and attended the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School’s Advanced Management Program for executive education.
Director, Talent Development
Stephanie Verhalen has more than 20 years of experience in the wireless telecommunications industry working in the role of talent acquisition and specializing in volume ramp up for high growth technology sectors. Her work extends from direct recruiting, recruiting strategies, retention plans, and employee relations to general human resources. Serving in the capacity of technical recruiter, to executive management in the field of human resources she has amassed a network of industry professionals that spans the full organizational ladder within the telecommunications and technology industries.
A graduate of the University of South Florida with B.S. in Criminal Justice, Stephanie worked as account executive and then manager of recruiting for American Personal Communications/Sprint Spectrum, the nation’s first commercial PCS venture.
She has worked with True Position, Broadband Offices, Teleglobe and eventually launched Vertech Staffing where she did work for Fulcrum IT, Shared Spectrum, Sybase|365. In her role at Acta Consulting, she provides the leadership in recruiting and talent development.
Managing Partner, Acta Capital
Alan MacIntosh has over 20 years of international business experience starting in oil exploration with Schlumberger. He later undertook a product management role with Hewlett-Packard, before joining Canada’s Telesystem group in 1990, where he established TIW’s mobile operations in eight countries including the UK where he managed operations for three years. In 1997, Alan moved to sister company Microcell and co-founded GSM Capital, the first global wireless fund, backed by nine of the world’s leading operators.
Alan currently sits on the boards of WaveMetrix, Millennial Media, Cellfish Media and Montreal Start-up. A native of Scotland, he holds a BSc (Hons) in Offshore Engineering from Heriot-Watt University and MBA from INSEAD. He lives in Montreal with his wife and three children.
Executive Chairman, Acta Consulting
Mark McDowell has over 25 years experience in the wireless industry as a wireless operator, entrepreneur and investor. He has been part of the founding management team of four companies, including Invertix, a pioneer in wireless instant messaging and presence, and Telecorp PCS, which was acquired by AT&T Wireless Services. Earlier in his career, Mark served as a manager at MLJ, where he was instrumental in the launch of the first PCS network in the United States. Mark served as an officer in the United States Air Force during the first Gulf War.
Mark is the Executive Chairman of Acta Consulting and serves on the boards of the Sweet Relish, NextNav (observer), and the Mobile Giving Foundation. He holds BSEE and MSEE degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mark lives near Charlotte, NC, with his wife and two children.
Partner & CTO
Graham has more than fifteen years of experience building solutions for wireless and Internet companies. Graham was previously VP and Chief Scientist of Invertix Corporation, where he developed fault tolerant SDRs, presence and messaging systems, and unattended sensor systems for wireless data networks. Earlier in his career, Graham designed and deployed cellular networks and services as an industry consultant.
He earned his B.S. in Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, where he was a researcher in the Mobile & Portable Radio Research Group (MPRG), and his MSEE at George Mason University. Graham lives near San Diego with his family.
Mark Ewen is the President of Zoove, a mobile direct response marketing firm in Silicon Valley that has pioneered star-star dialing. Prior to joining Zoove, Mark was a venture partner at Acta, where he served as an advisor to Zoove and other early stage firms in the wireless sector. Earlier in his career, Mark was Senior VP of Global Sales for Pinpoint Networks (later renamed Motricity). Mark began his career in wireless at Unwired Planet (later renamed Openwave), where he was Area Vice President of Sales focusing on North America and Latin America.
Mark holds a degree in Business from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, where he served a three year term on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association.
CEO & co-founder, Millennial Media
Paul Palmieri is the CEO and co-founder of Millennial Media, a mobile advertising firm conceived while he was a Venture Partner with Acta in 2005-2006. Prior to joining Acta, Paul led many groundbreaking efforts at Verizon Wireless, where his leadership resulted in new and successful business models and sub-economies that have led to rapid growth in mobile media. Earlier in his career, Paul held key management roles at Advertising.com, Tessco technologies and American Personal Communications (now SprintNextel). Paul is active in industry development serving on the CTIA Wireless Internet Caucus leadership Council, as well as the advisory board for the Mobile Giving Foundation. Paul is also an advisor to Launch Box Digital and three privately held companies in the mobile industry.
